Sixteen years ago, an arsonist changed Autumn McAllister and Jack Dillon’s lives forever. Now Autumn has decided it’s time to return to Clifton, Montana. She needs the time and space to recover from an accident that derailed her career as a smoke jumper and cost her the life of her lover. She never guessed that one of the first people she would run into would be Jack Dillon, who she tutored in English. The last time she had seen him, he had been barely a teenager and now at twenty-eight he had filled out to be an extremely handsome young man.

Jack was a long way away from being the scared and somewhat chubby kid that Autumn had tutored. He had become a paramedic and firefighter with the Clifton Fire Department and when he pulled Autumn out of the automobile accident he was very happy to see her. He had never forgotten how kind and helpful she had been to him as a child and a part of him still harbored the crush that fast blossomed into something else. Could he encourage Autumn to stay in Clifton permanently or will the arsonist who tore their lives apart sixteen years ago succeed in doing so again?

Denise Agnew draws the reader into the world of firefighting with finesse. She takes us on a journey though the rewards and losses that face these heroes. Jack and Autumn have a chemistry that is strong and playful throughout the entire story. The choices these two have to make are not always easy, but in the end, they find that their love for each other is open and strong. The suspense is expertly built as the arsonist targets local buildings and comes closer and closer to Jack and Autumn. I highly recommend this story. Not only for the wonderful romance, but for the wonderful tribute to the firefighters and paramedics who keep us all safe, no matter where we live.
