| Claire Burke was almost through with her nursing school requirements. Soon she would just have to decide where she wanted to work. The only thing she was sure of was that she wanted to leave Arkansas for a big city hospital where she could makes lots of money. She had been so busy for the past four years that she hadn’t even visited her Gran and Paw since she started her schooling. She previously had spent every summer with them. It just got to be too easy to neglect them and their little town outside of Little Rock called Dogwood.
One her Claire’s last patients before graduation was a woman named Mrs. Lola Faye Nugent. Claire loved to take care of her because the older woman loved to talk about her hometown and her preacher and her friends. Her enthusiasm inspired Claire to go visit her grandparents for a while before settling down. Little did she know how important that meeting with Mrs. Lola Faye would seem as she became part of the little town and the church. Brother Jake Weston (Mr. Honey Eyes she thought when she saw him) was a single pastor of the small church in Dogwood who was pastor to the town folk which included her grandparents and Mrs. Lola Faye. Of course, there had to be a diva, Miranda, who had her eyes set for the pastor. Ms. Sarah C. Goodman is a new author to me, but this will not, hopefully, be my last book by her. She has great insight into the spiritual workings of a small town church and, especially, a single pastor. Jake was desperate for someone to be a friend to him who did not look at him as just a pastor. It seemed that Claire could be an answer to his prayers. The characters and their supporting cast were superbly written. This plot was fresh and well penned. It was so fast moving I could not put it down. The small town setting was perfectly presented. I loved this book and this author. I highly recommend it to everyone.
