| Penny Foster is in grad school and working as a waitress at a comedy club in New York City. Chris MacAlister is one of her professors, Bobby Deagan is a comic. She’s been told comics aren’t good for the long haul but the professor is an awful kisser. What a conundrum she falls into!
From the dedication in the book it sounds like Ms. Bloodstone has been there, done that and is writing from a wealth of experience. It comes across in the realities of the dialogue. The club atmosphere is well painted. All of the characters sound reality based. I know I had my share of instructors who fit into a mold with Professor MacAlister! The friendship with Frankie, the camaraderie with coworkers, the doorman, performers at the club, is excellent. Of course the love affairs take center stage in any romance. Not only is Penny embroiled with two men, the self-proclaimed slut of the club is at it with her current man every time they turn around. Best friend Frankie shares her love interests too. Many of us can relate to the romances at work and that’s a good part of the fun of the book. Ms. Bloodstone makes the decision a tough one for Penny. This is a fun read because of the realities we can sink our minds into and because it’s just a lot of good stuff well written.
