| Elise has moved herself and daughter across the country to escape the turmoil from her past. They have settled into a new neighborhood and Elise has opened a dancing school. She meets her neighbor Brody and they settle into a friends-with-benefits relationship. Over time their feelings deepen but shadows from the past have a habit of appearing when you least expect them. They have to overcome more than one problem and also admit to themselves and each other what they really desire. For an emotionally scarred mother and a man finally free of responsibilities that will be the ultimate test.
Each book by Lauren Dane just gets better than the previous. She has the ability to draw the readers into the emotional lives of the characters. Elise is almost too perfect as a character. She has overcome so much and still retains her optimism and is a great parent to Rennie, her daughter. I’ve been in love with Brody since Laid Bare and he fulfills all my expectations. His integrity with his siblings was just a dress rehearsal for his dealings with Elise and Rennie. Brody is the quintessential big, bad, alpha hero with a heart of gold – a big teddy bear in disguise! Once I started reading Coming Undone I couldn’t stop. I was drawn into Elise’s life by her relationship with Rennie and once Brody came into their lives it just took the emotions to another level. Brody and Elise shared a connection during each love scene. Both were confident in their sexuality and their eagerness and openness with each other were a huge turn-on. The threat to Elise and Rennie was critical and also sad because it gave the story another touch of realism. I love how this author can take a real life problem, write it into a romance, and make it work. The family dynamics were an awesome addition to an already great romance. We were able to revisit Erin and her two men (from Laid Bare) and we found out a little bit more about Adrian and Cope. Raven also turned up in this book to create some conflict and I can’t help but wonder what the author has in store for her, if anything. These secondary characters were important to the story without distracting from Elise and Brody. I really hope more books are planned about this family, and that they will be released very soon.
