The Crowell twins were, visibly, not at all alike; however, they did have the “senses” we have all heard attributed to twins. Throughout this story, the fact that the two could “feel” what was going on with the other would be beneficial to all concerned. Chloe was blonde, blue eyed, two inches shorter and a little less slender than her sister, Beatrice. Bea had green eyes and auburn highlights in her dark hair. She had always known that she was the one passed over as others rushed to the beautiful Chloe. Their older brother, Richard, was estranged from the family. Their mother, Catherine, was only 48 years old but was not at all well; her husband spent his time traveling trying to find a doctor who could help his beloved wife.

The girls’ godmother, Lady Sophia Thayne, came to visit and requested to take the girls back to London for a Season. Catherine was thrilled they could be presented even though she was unable to participate. Neither girl really wanted to go, but they were unwilling to deny their precious mother the thrill of their good fortune! Bea and Chloe had not met Lady Thayne’s son, Nicholas, but he was a very close friend of Chloe’s “love” (which had ended last year and left her devastated)!

In addition to the “coming out” of the girls, there is a complicated treason situation which, while they are not guilty of anything, involved Richard, Chloe, and Nicholas. Beatrice was unaware of the undercover work, as was Chloe’s ex, the Earl of Randson. All this confusion makes a wonderfully interesting plot. As circumstances change, the state of affairs between the two couples only gets worse, especially after Nicholas’ aunt, his late father’s twin, Henrietta, decides to offer her assistance in clarifying that both couples were, indeed, in love!

I loved this bookit was a perfect rainy-day read. I do not, however, recommend you wait until it rains to read it! I highly recommend this historical work which promises to present its author, Ms. Carolynn Carey, with many much-deserved accolades!
