| Caleb Chilson is a Confederate soldier. Since he was bitten he’s had to deal with turning into a bobcat every month over the full moon. Brance is a wounded bobcat and Union soldier. Caleb helps him deal with his injury and finds himself attracted to the other werecat. Life gets even more complicated when Caleb, to prevent a whipping because he had deserted his post the night before tells his commanding officer where the Yankee camp is located.
J.M. Snyder seems to love to give us stories that are well written, suspenseful and raise a few questions at the same time. What if Brance hadn’t been so taciturn? His character tries to frighten Caleb away but they still draw close, cuddle, have great sex. Then he walks away. Caleb is much more of a romantic. As a bobcat he loves to play with his food and the creatures he decides are too small to eat. He’s a playful cat who falls in love. Would he have given in and betrayed his new friend if he knew how Brance felt? If Brance was a little more like Caleb or vice versa wouldn’t it have saved them time and pain? It’s left up to the reader. We can either just enjoy the heck out of this tale of two men of different backgrounds, different sides of the Civil War, both werecats falling for one another or form our own opinions of their actions. It’s a great story of the trials of the civil war soldiers. There are some fun conversations and scenarios. I choose to just adore the way Ms. Snyder writes excellent romance and not worry too much about the what ifs!
