Odette Peterson was a nurse missionary to Muslims in Mali, West Africa. Specifically, she worked with the Tuareg people nursing and teaching ladies’ Bible classes. After her first four-year term, she was home (in America) on furlough for a year. She met a man, Xavier Sand, at the airport on her return home who was a missionary to Japan. He did highly technical electronics media work. Odette barely had running water, electricity and telephones.

Their connection was immediate and their romance grew rapidly. However, Xavier felt there was no work available for him in Mali. In nursing, Odette could fit in to the Japanese hospitals. Unfortunately, she couldn’t accept his belief that she must leave her missions work to marry him. And, of course, as the book progressed they each encountered another person who would fit into each life and ministry.

Mr. Dana Sudboro was an unknown author to me personally. I can say, however, that I will definitely look for his books in the future. This book was an exceptionally candid look into the personal lives of missionaries and their individual commitment to a specific people/place. We were shown vividly that God calls women to specific places even though it would seem that the women would definitely make a move.

This was a full novel but it was one I definitely didn’t want to put down. It was action packed and fast paced. There was something happening on each page that kept me glued to the book. Sudboro developed his characters dramatically. His secondary characters were specifically detailed so that readers can feel part of the entire storyline.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a great romance. The happily-ever-after was hard fought and ended with an unbelievable surprise. The book was highly emotional to me. I laughed. I cried (several times). I neglected everything else to read the book. Great job, Mr. Sudboro!
