| Lisa and her husband Adam separated when he believes she betrayed him and their marriage. Now he needs her, at least while he runs for Congress. Can the two manage to act nice to one another in the public eye to help Adam win a Congressional seat or will their differences continue to destroy them? Richard Ellis has been in love with Sonya Michaels for years but the difference in their age seems to be a wall between them that he can't breach.
Nadia Aidan has written an excellent story of how some horrible foster families can adversely affect those who they promise to care for long into the future. Lisa is well done as a successful woman who has pulled herself out of the devastation dumped on her by some of the families she was forced to live with. Still she's filled with insecurities after suffering so much abuse. She doesn't trust Adam to understand her background, he isn't able to see through his jealousy and personal wants and needs. Richard's and Sonya's story is interesting and provides some humor to offset what could be a dark, painful story. If not for them, Lacy and the foster kids' tale mixed in it could be just another erotic romance. Instead I think Ms. Aidan has built a sometimes sad yet hopeful book of what people can accomplish no matter what life dishes out to them.
