| Terri Benschafer has just moved to Cool Spring, Pennsylvania and is prepared to start her life anew. She’s left behind her family, friends, and everything else that was familiar to her. Now in a new town where everyone is a stranger, she is more than a little nervous about starting over.
As a middle school teacher in Cool Springs, she quickly forms close relationships with her students and fellow teachers. Before long, Cool Spring feels like home. From directing the middle school production of “Another Fine ‘How Do You Do?” to her new social life, Terri is happy with her decision to move to Cool Spring. But as the year rolls on, Terri’s peaceful life is interrupted by the presence of three men. There is Paul, her ex who has come to visit her from Montgomery where she used to live; Laurence, a gregarious and handsome friend of a friend; and Randy, the former mayor of Cool Spring who has just returned from California. As the winter months melt into spring, Terri knows she’s about to make the most important decision of her life. But will it be the right one? “Cool Spring” is a cozy novel set in the type of small town where everyone dreams they will someday live. Cool Spring is the kind of place where neighbors know each other by name and crime is something that happens on prime time television. Not only has Patricia Nelson created an appealing place for Terri to call home, but she has also created a diverse cast of characters for this sweet love story. My only complaint is that throughout much of the story I felt left on the periphery, only able to glimpse the superficial actions of the supporting characters. I would have liked to know more about what motivated Terri’s suitors. All in all, I enjoyed “Cool Spring” and found it to be an enjoyable book.
