| Reina is an empath working towards her Master's degree in Preternatural Sociology. Her best friend Adri is a werewolf, so she is well aware of the bias people have against people with a little something extra, particularly the members of PURE. The members of that hate organization would like to eliminate all weres, vampires, and others. Adri's brutal murder is the perfect opportunity for them to cause trouble, so police detective and vampire Patrick Keachan and his friend, Professor Logan MacGregor are trying to keep things low key thinking that the crime was the work of a rogue vampire. They reckon without Reina, who is determined to help them find the killer. Unfortunately, the killer is even more dangerous than they thought. Someone from Logan's past is detemined to get him back and willing to destroy everyone he loves to accomplish this.
This is an intriguing paranormal romance. It is different in many respects than the average. Reina's empathic abilities and feisty personality made her my favorite characters. Keachan was much harder to like and his methods of investigation seemed to cause more problems than they solved. Logan is an attractive and charismatic character, but his secretive nature and arrogant method of dealing with Reina irritated me at times. His lover Kynan is much more likeable with his sympathy and ready sense of humor. The plot is very exciting and will hook you very quickly. It is full of suspense and action and a bit violent. The love story between Logan and Reina is not typical but engrossing none the less with some very hot love scenes. There are some surprising plot twists that really make the story. I will definitely be looking for more of this author's work.
