Edna Zulma just wants to regain control of her life and leave her past behind. Her first step is to find employment which will allow her to become more independent and move out of her mother's home. She wants to leave behind all things related to "Madame Z." However, circumstances will not allow her to do so. Edna meets the man of her dreams at work, Burton McCutcheon. She wants him, but can she have him with her scandalous past and uncertain future?

This was the first book I've ever read by Ms. Midway. I really enjoyed it with only minor qualms. This book is the second in her Corporate series and as I had not read the first one, there were huge stumbling blocks in the beginning. After plowing through a portion of the book without complete understanding of the main character's history, I became engaged with the characters and the plot. I love stories about individuals overcoming personal and social challenges. I would imagine that it must be difficult for former convicts to assimilate into productive members of society. I loved the manner in which Ms. Midway handled this. Her development of Edna was not too condescending or paternalist. Edna was a wonderfully flawed character who the reader can relate to in a real way. The story was paced very well. The emotional and sexual relationship of the characters was not rushed or forced. The BDSM relationship helped set the pace of the characters' relationship and keep the pace of their development relationship.

However, I did not like the opening sequence of the book as I did not like the initial presentation of Edna to the reader. Yet after additional interaction and development of Edna, I did come to admire her character and better understand her behavior. Nonetheless, overall Corporate Desires is very well developed with characters and a story a reader can enjoy!
