Eighteen year old Dylan Rutledge's one passion was music. He believes he will be the greatest composer of the twentieth century. His history master, Laurence, at the Bede School for young man believes in Dylan's talent and encourages him instead of trying to get him to take a safer path in life. Unknown to Laurence, Dylan is also in love with him.

Dylan's passion for his music alienates him from his family and leads him on a path filled with disappointment, rejection, love and a loss that just about kills his dream. When a chance at love offers Dylan a way out of despair to live his dream will he have the courage to take the chance?

This was an incredible book, like Dylan's wonderful masterpiece, it invokes thoughts and emotions, that make the reader feel like that they have stepped into the past and right into Dylan's life. Many times I found myself riding an emotional roller coaster, with hope, despair, love and loss and then hope again only to have it change again in the blink of an eye. The characters are wonderfully written. With a depth that allows us to feel so many things that at once, it was like being a voyeur into the life of Dylan and the people around him. The author also writes so wonderfully the background of Paris and England at the turn of the century, and the constraints of society that Dylan battles against to live out his dream. The fact that this book has m/m situations is minute, and would not be offensive to anyone. This book is for those who would truly love to read a truly captivating book, that should have its place among the best classics of drama/romances. This is the book for all readers of historical romances.
