The Countess Meredith du Chevalier is a widow with a free spirit who lives life by her own rules. Her reputation for pleasure knows no bounds. When she is approached by a gentleman who wishes her to take his son under her wing and make him a man, Meredith is intrigued. When she meets the staid Christopher Whitby, who is more at home with his plants, flowers and dirt than he is in a ballroom full of people, she is enchanted. From their first kiss, Meredith senses Christopher's vibrating desires that are simmering below the surface just waiting to be set free. He agrees to come to Meredith's country home to help set up her neglected greenhouse never realizing this is all part of the challenge.

While Meredith is anxiously planning her daily lessons of seduction with soft words, playful fun, caresses, as well as blinding passion, she is blind to her own feelings until it is too late. A smitten Christopher too is planning his game with love, friendship, patience, and devotion and he has all the intentions of winning the ultimate prize, Meredith. A panic-stricken Meredith ends their idyllic time in the country and they return to town and reality. Reality in the form of Christopher overhearing his father and Meredith talk of their bargain. A hurt Christopher has every intention of taking charge of his life. He will show Meredith as well as his parents just what kind of a man he has become. For Meredith she has finally admitted to herself that love is worth taking that leap of faith on a man again. But is it too late?

The novel is an enchanting story of passion, friendship, devotion and ultimately love. Ms. Dee has the ability to draw the reader into the book from page one and not let go. This story is a beautiful awakening of two people who with the helping hand of an unsuspecting person have come together to help nurture confidence, character as well as passion in each other. They both realize that love really is all that matters.

The characters, Christopher and Meredith are highly developed with enough background to help the reader understand the decisions each has made in life. The dialogue is believable as well as helps to move the story at a nice pace that doesn't rush but build up each scene. The passion is explosive and should come with a warning label. Yet the scenes of Meredith and Christopher playing together, working together and just spending time together pull at the readers heart-strings. The intense emotional pull of this novel kept me turning the page. I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them immensely but this one has got to be my all time favorite.
