LotsaCoups is having a competition for their sales staff. Jeanie Callahan needs that $5000 prize to replace her messy and ailing car. It’s making odd noises and talking back to her. Jeanie needs to bring in more new clients than anyone else on staff -- and selling direct mail coupons is not especially easy. She joins the local cast of “The Sound of Music” to meet new prospects and satisfy her craving for the limelight. Producer Barton Columbus is a handsome romantic possibility, but more than a little strange.

The main character is hip, flip, and extraordinarily likable. She is irreverent and totally human, an admirable modern girl with a mind of her own.

Author Becky Motew also introduces us to Jeanie’s diverse and often weird office mates and customers in this fun and funny first novel. The cussing foreign-born receptionist, the glory grabber, and the silly prods of management are all fun to read about. This is an engaging look at a business most of us know nothing about. The cast of the amateur musical is also intriguing and often idiotic, making for a quick pace and lots of laughs.

There are an awful lot of characters to keep straight: the friend intent on conceiving a baby, the criminals on parole starting a pizza chain, the singing nuns of all ages and sizes, and many, many more. But it’s worth the effort. The book is filled with thoroughly enjoyable goofiness, based on the often ridiculous events of everyday life. Jeanie’s love life is only part of the main focus of this fast paced novel. There are lots of sub plots and diverse action. This is chick lit at its best.
