| A snowstorm trapped Alaskan survival expert Sunny outside of the private community where she lived. Parajumper Wade has already rescued some stranded climbers when his equipment shows another live body. Jumping to her rescue he is surprised to find the capable Sunny yet on the way back to her home they are attacked by a sniper that Sunny recognizes as someone she thought of as a friend. They take refuge in an abandoned cave but soon realize they are not alone - dead bodies are with them. Wade and Sunny embark on a treacherous and emotional journey to find the killer, while keeping secrets that just might cost them their lives.
Non-stop action and strong characters make this book one you don't want to miss. Descriptive scenes of the Alaskan landscape enhance the plot and bring to life the survival skills necessary to live in an unforgiving area. The secondary characters, Wade's fellow parajumpers and Sunny's family and friends, bring warmth and camaraderie to the story. The bantering between Wade and his team was entertaining. I found myself smiling at their antics but underneath was the realization of how much they supported and cared for each other. Wade and Sunny's relationship was very believable. Both made mistakes with each other but they learned from them and moved on. Their struggles against an unknown enemy strengthened their bond. Sunny had a great personality. She was strong, honest and very direct in her approach to life which was at odds with her need to keep such a huge family secret. Chewie, Sunny's dog, almost stole the show. I loved his character and look forward to reading more about him in future books. The secondary romance between Sunny's sister and her childhood sweetheart added humor as well as creating more suspense for the story. From the intense opening scene to the romantic final page, I was captivated and couldn't put down the book. After finishing Cover Me I wanted to delve right into the next book! Catherine Mann is an auto buy for me!
