Angela, a dance instructor, has been in love with Jesse, her brother’s best friend, since she was a child, but made sure not to let him know. Then Jesse returns from his time on the Rodeo circuit to run his family’s ranch, and Angela finds out he’s about to get married to his neighbour’s daughter. Unbeknownst to her, Jesse has been blindsided by the news of his impending nuptials since he never proposed to Lydia. When he tells Angela he isn’t getting married after all, she assumes he’s just getting cold feet and suggests a last fling with her will get the hesitancy out of his system before he settles down.

Unfortunately this book was a grave disappointment to me on a number of levels. To start with, this novel is described as being a multicultural romance, and I found that to be misleading. Although the heroine is an Asian woman adopted into an American family, that aspect of her character plays no part whatsoever in the story. That, however, was a relatively minor frustration. The often amateurish nature of the writing and many technical flaws were a greater aggravations, but it was the characterizations and plot which caused me the most distress.

The main characters are described in certain ways but then act and think in totally contrary manners. On a couple of occasions earlier characterizations were even completely contradicted later on. The plot hinged on a series of rather bizarre occurrences and misunderstandings of the type one frank, adult conversation would clear up. While I can usually suspend belief far enough for one such plot device in a book, I am afraid I couldn’t help becoming annoyed as they piled up. There were also a number of plot holes that couldn’t be overlooked.

All of the above, along with the explicit sex scenes that did nothing to either move the plot along or build our knowledge of the characters, caused me to end this book with a sense of great dissatisfaction.
