Cowgirl Up is an interesting mix of erotica and romance that highlights the sex and hints at romance but leaves the reader wondering if these characters can ever forsake their multiple partner lifestyle for a monogamous relationship.

Sam, born to privileged parents, grew up with the lesser endowed Brie and Manuel as fast friends. Through the years Brie and Sam's attraction for each other has both heated up the sheets and torn them apart.

Now Sam the successful rich businessman, and Brie who trains horses for a living, still fight their feelings and occasionally get together for a session of brutal sex and making each other miserable trading barbs, mainly at Brie's sex life.

Brie models for an Apache painter on the reservation named Shem and freely exchanges sexual favors with him and another nude model named Cat. Meanwhile, Manuel holds down a teaching position at the high school and occasionally visits his old friends if only to soothe their harried relationship.

When Sam hears Brie and Cat are modeling at an art gallery with one of Shem's paintings, stark naked, he goes ballistic and in a humiliating scene he subjects Brie to the treatment of a whore to teach her a lesson.

Manuel, finding Brie emotionally bereft, goes after Sam and thrashes him within an inch of his life. Brie picks up the pieces and tries to smooth over the episode and her past with Sam makes her want him all the more.

Brie introduces Manuel to Cat at another of Shem's nude modeling sessions and a good time is had by all. Manuel finds himself in love with the beautiful, generous Cat and Cat finds herself into Manuel, though each exchanges partner's and go their separate ways.

The gist of the story is not who will end up with who…but when. The romance is not in-depth and the ever changing sexual partner's make the reader wonder if any of it will be lasting when each does declare their love. However, for sexual situations and mild BDSM this book rates highly, as it entertains and titillates along the way. Some may find the sex too rough for a respectful relationship between couples, but taken in the context of entertaining erotica, it is what it is without pretension…entertainment with a bite.
