Spencer's life takes an unexpected turn when his father, with whom he's had no contact for several years, dies and he's to say a few words in his wake. Besides dealing with the secret that his father had, and it literally changed his world view, Spencer still has to cope with his sudden attraction to his "uncle" Rourke. This is only the beginning.

Before I talk about the book, I wanted to give some warnings. First, Coyote's Creed is not a romance. The main character kind of has a relationship with another character, but it's not the main focus of the story. Second, this relationship is a May/December one (Spencer is eighteen and Rourke is fifty). What's more is the fact that Rourke saw Spencer grow (before they become involved, Spencer thought of Rourke as uncle). I know this may discourage some people from reading the book but as I said, the romance is a very small part.

Having said that, I loved the book. The characters are full of surprises. You never know what they will do or what they are hiding. The story is full of twists and turns which makes it very interesting. When I started reading, I could not drop the book. It also helped that it is well written. The writing is straightforward, it's not flowery, which does not distract the reader from what's happening. Spencer is the main character. He's eighteen and turns tricks to help pay for the house. His mother is ill and doesn't work so it's up to him to keep a roof over their heads and still take care for his mother. He's smart, funny and has a huge knowledge about television programs. He is a delightful character.

The story is very interesting with the different clans (the Coyote, the Kitsune and the Phouka) and their conflicts. Each clan wants to prove that its better than the other and the way they do this is to trick (the three clans are tricksters). So for those who don't have a problem with the warnings I gave at the beginning, I recommend that you take a chance on Coyote's Creed. I don't think you'll regret it.
