Lia Morgan hasn't seen her sister, Sylvie, for seven years. But when she learns Sylvie and her son, Deion, are missing, she leaves New York and flies to San Francisco to help. She's been psychic since she was a teenager and realizes the signs featuring the number eight mean something, as do the newspapers showing crossword puzzles. Aiding her is Jared Trimble, an anthropology professor, puzzle fanatic and former boyfriend. The search leads them to a photography studio, but there's no sign of Sylvie and Deion. Nor do the police have any leads. In fact, they've decided Sylvie is hiding because of a paternity suit. The man who has Sylvie does everything within his power to prevent Jared and Lia from learning the truth. While Jared uses his wits, Lia follows signs, and together they find the final clue. But will they find Sylvie and Deion? Or will they lose their lives in the attempt?

This edge-of-the-seat mystery held me enthralled until the end. The author has created a spine-tingling mystery with twists and turns that have you gasping and wondering. The author plants the clues in such a way you scramble to figure them out. First, you believe one person guilty, and then you switch to another. When you finally learn the identity of the perpetrator, it is a shock.

The characters are so very interesting, and varied, and include, among others, a former government agent, a studious head-in-the-clouds professor, and a psychic world-traveled photographer. The reignited romance between Jared and Lia builds while they search for Sylvie, until, when facing death, they realize they truly love one another. Yet, there are enough bumps along the way to make it interesting. Sylvie, Lia and Jared show their determination in the face of danger and do not give up, even when everything looks the darkest.

I loved this book and you may be sure I will read more by this author.
