Captain Frederick Thorne only has one mistress and that is of the sea. He believes no woman will ever tie him down. Unfortunately a gypsy informs he will indeed meet a challenging woman. Arabella Prescott is a woman of beauty and courage. After her father is appointed governor, to the island Paradise of St. Crescentia, Arabella joins him to be closer to her fiancé, Lt. Nicholas Wentworth. She met him at a Christmas ball and he swept her heart away. When she arrives, she learns Nicholas was killed by pirates. Now she hates all pirates until one kidnaps her and leaves her mind in a tizzy. Captain Thorne set out to kidnap Governor Prescott but not finding him at home, it is Arabella who he abducts. If the governor wishes the safe return of his daughter, he must pay the ransom. Arabella vows her father will deal harshly with the pirates but the more time she spends with Frederick, the attraction grows stronger sending goose bumps through her. Frederick believes he has finally met the woman who just might be his destiny but wonders can she love and give her heart to him, a pirate, when it was pirates that murdered her fiancé?

Crossed Swords is a wonderful read, blending in great visual effects of pirates, heroes, and swashbuckling adventure that grabs hold of the reader taking them on one great adventure ride. I could share in the ache that Arabella feels when she learns about her fiancé then later when she is coupled with Frederick, the torn sensations that stir within her. Expressions come alive in this great read. Marianne LaCroix creates a heated erotic tale where this reader fell in love with the characters, especially Frederick. He has a charismatic charm that leaps from the pages. I love how he can be considered a treacherous rogue one minute and a compassionate man the next. This robust passionate pirate read is deliciously delightful.
