| Carrie Ann enlisted in the Air Force two days after high school graduation. Her best friend, Alan, backed out and stayed in the little Mississippi town and married Mary Lou. Even throughout her career, Tech Sargeant Carrie A. Armstrong kept in touch with her friends through e-mail. Her career was set; she would retire from the Air Force before she quit.
Marine Staff Sargeant Beau Adams was crew chief and staff NCO stationed in Djibouti, Africa. His career in the Marines meant more to him than anything. He understood, if not supported, the military ruling about no fraternization between the sexes while deployed overseas. That didn’t bother him—he didn’t like having female staff anyway. Women had a way of causing problems. And then he met his new Tech Sargeant. He knew as soon as he flew a mission with Carrie Ann that he was in trouble. Ms. Cat Johnson has again presented us with a fabulous novel. She has a way with her manuscripts which make them uniquely hers. Her attention to details is impressive. Her main characters were so realistic that it was as if I was watching their lives on a screen. Her alpha male, Beau, and his love interest, Carrie Ann, united two people who were focused on their careers to the detriment of personal relationships. The subordinate characters ranged from his best friend to a sullen female and all in between. One was careful to keep gossip quiet while the other stirred up as much scandal as possible. The sensual scenes were beautiful and poignant. The fact that both their careers were in jeopardy made some tense moments for all of them. All of the apprehension and physical connections made for another winner for Ms. Johnson. I have never read a Cat Johnson book that I did not like. This was one of her best, in my opinion. There was more anxiety over what could happen than sexual scenes. This did not, however, minimize the impact of those incidents. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a love story with an amazing ending.
