Payce is back to work after a traumatic accident that everyone thought would keep her from returning to the police force. Little did she know that her boss was going to assign her a new partner with a past as troubled as her own. Gavin has come over to the US from England looking for a fresh start and a chance to escape his past. When bodies start turning up faster than they can get to them, Payce knows it is going to be a hell of a first day together. Things only get worse as they investigate the string of serial murders that might be linked to a religious group or maybe a casino or maybe just a crazy person. Good luck seeing if you can find out who is leading the chase.

Let me say up front that there is little romance in this romantic suspense. At times it seems that the author was struggling to get the story rolling and took some time meandering through the beginning. About half way through, Barrington gets his rhythm and the story begins to be a page turner- so hang in there. The plot has many twists and turns that lead you on a merry chase to see if you can figure out the puzzle the author has set before us. The main characters are bit bland outside of their past stories and could have used more interaction between the two. Thank goodness for the Coroner because she gave us the most insight into Payce and Gavin. The ending clearly sets the reader up for the next book and leaves you hanging on edge to see where the story will go.
