| Bain Duncan has been burned badly by love. Trying to put a bad divorce behind him, he moves to the Fort Worth, Texas area on the recommendation of his cousin. Bain feels an instant attraction to his co-worker, Ally Briscoe, but fights it with all his might. He doesn't want to get involved with anyone while he is still healing from his former wife. He decides to put all his energy into his new job as a writer for the Lanville Journal. Ally falls head over heals for Bain the first time she sees him and tries hard to get him to notice her. When he repeatedly turns down her offers to get together she starts to convince herself that Bain isn't interested in her. When Cupid, in the disguise of the janitor Claud, offers advice to Ally regarding Bain, she decides to follow it. That it's Valentine's Day can only make her new plan more risky.
Ms. LaFleur has created a rich, wonderful story. Bain's hesitation to get involved is understood considering what he has been through with his ex-wife. Ally's attempts to get Bain's attention make you ache for her as she is rejected time and again. When she finally takes matters into her own hands, the anticipation keeps the pages turning. The appearance of Cupid in the form of Claud the janitor is done in a very smart way. The sexual heat between Bain and Ally is felt from the first moment they are together, holding out hope that they will both choose to persue the relationship further. I thoroughly enjoyed this story!
