| Asia Bolino could not believe that of all the bars in town, Roman Winters is in hers and that mutual attraction strikes! Unfortunately, Roman is from the enemy shifter tribe and does not know who she is. He asks her to go on a late-night date with him and in a moment of weakness Asia agrees. Waiting outside for her, Roman is attacked and left with amnesia! Not knowing what else to do, Asia takes him home with her and when he wakes up he thinks that they are married and does not remember that he’s a shifter…
Munro has created the most unusual shifter species I have ever read: orcas (as in whales)! I was delighted by this new spin on the shifter universe and rather charmed by her efforts in trying to stand out from the more generic wolf or cat. The portrayal of orca shifters were well done and there was sufficient detail about the species intertwined with the story to make it realistic without being bogged down in scientific detail of this more unknown mammal. I couldn’t help giggling when picturing Roman and Asia frolicking in the water Free Willy style. The characters were charming and complex with their individual own weaknesses and stupid mistakes, and one cannot help cheering for them as they went through their journey of finding and becoming worthy of each other. Roman was absolutely enjoyable as he sauntered naked around and tried to fix his "marriage" with poor guilt-stricken Asia. The only problem I had with this story was its uneven pacing as it was very slow in parts. But there were lots of amusing moments in this story, though Munro skilfully wove a suspenseful plot of clan wars and internal intrigues into the romance as Roman juggled wooing Asia and saving his island.
