Connie is a successful storeowner. It is good to be successful at something since the failure of her marriage to Joel, a police officer. She got the house in the divorce, and unfortunately, Joel’s best friend Hale as a next-door neighbor. But when Hale saves the boy Connie intends to adopt, they develop a closer relationship. That relationship is threatened when someone tries to sabotage Connie’s business and suspects Joel.

The Daddy Protector is a very entertaining romance. Connie and Hale are very appealing characters and misinformation and misunderstandings abound to confound their romance. Connie’s ex is a very bitter individual who needs to grow up, even though his fellow officers wronged him after he was forced to testify against one of them. Hale has definitely been influenced by his best friend’s opinion of Connie and he is truly surprised to find out just how wrong he was about her. Connie accepts her share of guilt for the breakup of the marriage, but is naturally reluctant to get involved with another cop, but Hale overcomes her objections with his caring attitude towards her new son Skip, who he had previously saved from a fire. The subplot of the individual who is trying to destroy Connie’s business is very suspenseful. The author also gives us a peek into both of the main characters’ childhoods, giving insight into what made them into the adults in the story. This is a fast moving and entertaining story.
