Michael Baldwin, the son of an Iowa pig farmer, knew at an early age he liked boys. His mother use to tell him that love had a mind of its own. When he grew up he decided to move to New York. Auditioning at the Joffrey Ballet School, Michael was accepted and lived and breathed dance. Later he met the man who would be his partner in life, David Silverman, a law student. Years later, Michael finally made is as male lead in the dance company. His dance partner, Margo Crawford was an unhappy woman who had bad luck with men. Then out of the blue she dies. It was a shock but the detective believes it was an accident. When Michael meets his new dance partner, Elizabeth Hunter, something stirs inside him. David sees what is going on between them. Michael means the world to him. He doesn’t wish to lose Michael, and especially not to any woman. Michael knows how stubborn David can be but he is torn and must search his heart for answers to his feelings. Only time will tell if the two can overcome their differences.

I think what I liked most about Dance of the Heart is the fact the author didn’t have to mix graphic sex with the partners. Instead he showed sides to Michael and David where the reader can feel the ache or the joy by being together without all the extras. It left a good feeling to see a relationship with more than just steamy scenes. I also liked Michael’s mother. She was compassionate who cared about the welfare of her son, no matter what the age. James Therrian weaves a beautiful story about life, loving and discovery of one’s self. He shows the depth of his characters emotions. When David heard about the feelings Michael had for Elizabeth, the reader could almost feel the sharp pain that crushes his heart. This indeed is one story that is fantastic in every aspect.
