| Delaney Martin has returned to her home town in Florida after a grueling six years studying to be a veterinarian. She graduated at the top of her class, got a great job in a new clinic, and even her parents, who once thought that all girls should get married and have children, are bursting with pride. She also, to a large degree, has overcome the crippling shyness that plagued her as a child and teenager. One day on the beach, she meets two former classmates, Joshua and Adam. Josh is still the studly star quarterback type he was in high school, but Adam has really changed from the nerd he was back then. Del decides to take a chance on his friendship and possibly more. Someone else is determined that that won't happen. He feels that Del rejected him and destroyed his life and turnabout is fair play.
I really had a hard time putting this novel down once I started. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I really liked Delaney and Adam, two misfits who really overcame their high school insecurities. Josh is a strange character and I didn't know what to think about him. Nina is perfect as a best friend to Del. The setting in a beach community in Florida is very attractive and really suits the story. The author really describes the setting and characters well. The murderer gets all of his ideas on the Internet, a pretty scary thought. The mystery has so many twists and turns that the reader will have a very difficult time guessing who wants Delaney dead. This is a really great romantic suspense novel.
