| When Laura Marshall, travel agent, collides with oil magnate, Riley O'Conner, she has no idea of the magic she's unleashed. Nor does she realize that Riley will show up at her vacation spot where she's spending several days with two friends. Their tumultuous beginning morphs from anger and rejection into love and passion, and an engagement. But something's not right. Laura spots a strange man once too often and wonders if he's following her, and why. Riley, also disturbed at discovering someone's been in his room, chooses to blame the maid instead of looking into it further, even though he's scheduled to travel to the middle east in three weeks to settle a work-related problem. They marry in the garden of the family ranch, though it is marred by the presence of Riley's ex-fiancé, and by the very man who's been following them. The terrorists kidnap Laura just when Riley flies home, and he doesn't know if he will be able to save her and their baby.
I thoroughly enjoyed this very romantic story. The characters, both Laura and Riley, are outstanding, and their attraction absolutely electric. The author gradually builds trust between the two who were once antagonists, developing their romance in a delicious fashion. Riley is a determined but honorable man, but with a hint of the fey, passed on from his grandmother. Laura, loyal to her friends and employer, soon adds Riley to the mix, and their marriage in a gorgeous garden setting is delightful—but marred by the presence of two enemmies. The tension builds and the reader senses something evil is about to happen but isn't altogether sure which faction, if not both, will create tragedy. The author shows not only great feelings of love; she also reveals doubts, fears and loyalty. She paints a great picture of the surroundings as well, putting the reader right in the scene. A well-written, poignant story. I commend this author and anxiously await her next book.
