| Annabelle Garrett was engaged at birth to Gavin Leonard. When her father, the super-rich G. R. Garrett, announced the upcoming marriage on her 20th birthday, she was really upset. Later in the evening, she became horrified when she heard Gavin confess to a friend that he was going to drown her little dog (her very best friend) Mr. Britches, and also kill her, saying that she drowned trying to save her dog! Scared to death, she ran from her home in Boston. She ran out of money in Sweetwater!
Neville Hilliard owns The Globe Saloon and brothel. He is an orphan with no family and not much money. After Annabelle ruined every employment opportunity in Sweetwater, she walked into the Globe asking for a job. She did not give her name, but since she obviously was not a drinker, he called her Temperance. He could tell by her countenance that she was a lady of means. He was definitely interested in her! Throughout the novel either Annabelle or Neville were constantly having problems or Mr. Britches always seemed to end up in the mix! She needed $12.00 to go the rest of the way to San Francisco. The women who worked in the brothel were a close-knit group and struggled to keep Annabelle and Neville out of trouble. Of course, it did not work. The book by Ms. Laura E. Reagan is a fast-paced tale with lots of funny parts and mix ups. The sexual tension keeps the couple tied up in knots, Mr. Britches frequently made a mess, and Annabelle and Neville tried to prove who is most stubborn. And then, the paper ran an ad on the front page of the paper with a $10,000 reward for Annabelle! What happened when Gavin and her father show up in Sweetwater? It is a wonderful, fun-filled book which is so fun to read. I highly recommend it to anyone!
