| Sue and Cal, happily married and very much in love, have sexual needs that the other can't exactly fulfill. So they periodically meet up with another couple who offer the pleasure they seek. But Cal has been a bit restless and dissatisfied with their activities, and he doesn't know how to breach the subject to his wife. On their way to another get together, Cal finally confesses what's on his mind, just as a crazy driver crashes into them from behind, leaving them in the brisk of life and death. Literally. Afraid of what it's in store for them, they enjoy what might be their last time together. Little do they know they are about to be interrupted in the middle of their private good-bye -- by Death itself.
This was an intriguing novel. I really liked the whole suspense of it, from the drunk driver, to the mysterious place they find themselves in after the accident, to the whole final debate with the Reaper. The plot is very well-paced and passionate. However, I didn't really like the character development in this story. I liked Cal and Sue. They are obviously in love, and that love and the freedom it brings to their relationship is very refreshing. But, I didn't feel the connection between the two of them and the Reaper. The entire ménage scene was very weird. It seemed forced, nothing like the easiness I felt when it was just the two of them. That threw me off, because even though the sex was steamy, there was no real feeling to it, and without that, this story has nothing to offer but great potential.
