| Avoiding Leo Dunne, the company CEO, is Ruby Halloway's way of dealing with her attraction to him. However, when he corners her at the company Halloween party, her best friend forces her hand with four little words: double-dog dare you.
Leo has spent months trying to get Ruby alone so he can prove that she is his destined bondmate. When his plan finally pays off and Ruby succumbs to her desire for him, their mutual passion sets off fireworks. Not willing to be separated from her, Leo convinces Ruby to go with him when a family emergency pops up. The opening scene between Ruby and her best friend is a great illustration of Ruby's personality. She is a strong woman who is unwilling to back down from a challenge but faces whatever comes her way with irreverent humor. That sense of humor helps her deal with everything that gets thrown at her over the course of the book while endearing her to some of the most powerful supernatural beings in the story. While Ruby's humor kicks off the story, Leo's forceful personality drives a lot of the action from there on out. With his blend of boyish charm and single-minded determination, he makes it impossible for Ruby, and the readers, to resist him. There are no slow points in this story. It starts off quickly, sucking the reader in, and it never lets up. The relationship between Ruby and Leo heats up as soon as they are alone together and only gets hotter as the story progresses. And though their emerging bond is the focus of the story, the underlying threat to Leo?s family is always present. Everything about this story is fantastic. All of the characters are interesting, even those that are extremely unlikable, and their presence enriches the story. The ending is immensely satisfying and leaves this reader anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.
