Lara was born a Dragonseeker but raised as a captive to her evil great-grandfather. With the help of her aunts, she escapes at the age of eight. Her aunts have tried to prepare her for live outside captivity as well as teaching her the heritage she has been denied so far. She returns to the Carpathian Mountains as an adult, drawn to them from her memories. She meets Nicolas, an ancient Carpathian who is on the verge of walking into the sun. Once Nicolas sees Lara, he knows she is his lifemate and wants to impose his will on her immediately. Lara can't handle his domination because of her childhood. They must find a way to work together to protect the future generations of Carpathians.

I could not put down this book. I have enjoyed this whole series and this one was no exception. I loved the family tree in the front of the book and referred to it often while reading. The pacing pulled me in and the plot kept me entertained until the very end. I love how the author put a fresh spin on the Carpathian race and advanced the overall series. Lara was a heroine that as a child had been through horrors you can't imagine. Nicolas wanted Lara in the way of the Carpathians and it took a tragedy to make him realize he couldn't force her to accept him as her lifemate. I loved how Nicolas handled realizing Lara was a person in her own right and he couldn't always protect her. Lara's growth and knowledge during the book showed how valuable she is to the Carpathians and Dragonseekers. After reading this book, I am on pins and needles waiting for the next installment in this series. Dark Curse is full of adventure, suspense, sexual tension, and heart-stopping romance!
