| It's the year 1123 and there's a monster terrorizing the village of Stone Crest. A group of warriors known as The Shields are sent by the Fae to eradicate this threat. Mina of Stone Crest is accused of releasing and controlling it. Hugh the Righteous is the unofficial leader of The Shields and his instincts tell him that Mina is responsible. Will Mina be able to prove her innocence?
This was a good story that had the potential to be great had it been a little shorter. Mina was meek at first because of the poor treatment of her siblings, but I liked how she started to come into her own once The Shields arrived. She seemed to blossom overnight and the change was very refreshing. Hugh was a true warrior and even though he was uncertain of Mina, I really liked his protectiveness towards her. It made the attraction between them more genuine and I couldn't wait for them to get together. However, the misunderstanding between them took too long to resolve and the story ended too quickly. This was the first book in The Shields series and Donna Grant kept me interested enough to want to read her other stories.
