Gabriel MacInnes, for the better part of his life, has led an enchanting lifestyle. Being the Highland werewolf of Alpha lineage, and the second son of the Werewolf pack, when his Pack falls prey to enemies, everything turns chaotic. Rowan an Morgaine was born a Goddess. As a powerful and brave warrior, she can handle almost any situation. When her people are massacred, leaving her to be chased by a dragon prince who insists she belong to him, her brother comes to her rescue then places her in the hands of Gabriel. At first, Gabriel is not too keen on taking care of her since vampire and werewolves do not really mix, but he accepts the responsibility. Rowan has her own qualms about staying with him, feeling he might harm her but one look into that handsome stature and she is smitten. With their destiny in each other's hands, Gabriel has an important duty ahead of him, but learning to survive is the question when he and Rowan are up against odds that could possibly bring one vampire and one werewolf together.

Dark Highland Fire had moments where I could actually experience the fear Rowan feels as she is being chased, after her world falls apart. The description of Gabriel, wow that was something that plunged deep into my heart. I could visualize his whole being, which made the story even more intriguing. The love and romance between Rowan and Gabriel is so skillfully fashioned, one cannot help but root for them to become one. The dialogue spun between them is crisp and wonderfully done. Kendra Leigh Castle weaves a smooth flowing read with action-packed events, and a star studded cast that kept this reader turning the pages. I love the world she builds as well as the in-depth characters she creates.
