| Solange is by choice an independent warrior, intent on avenging the shifter women who cannot protect themselves. Dominic is an ancient Carpathian nearing the end of his time and he has come to the jungle on a suicide mission to save his Prince and his people. Solange and Dominic encounter each other in the jungle and join forces to fight a common enemy.
If you're looking for a huge conflict as you've read in previous Carpathian novels, you might be disappointed with Dark Peril. There is conflict but it is easily resolved. Even the ending was rather abrupt and seemed almost too easy. That being said, Dark Peril focuses on the relationship between Solange and Dominic and how they overcome their history of being alone. A lot of time is devoted to Dominic showing Solange that he is a man that can be trusted with her love. Dominic is patient and very giving with Solange. As their relationship develops you will realize this book is a true romance, the sex very tender, sensual and at times playful which is a contradiction in what we know about their personalities. I believe it showed their growth as individuals and as a couple. I liked how their genetics and special abilities complimented each other and can see how these attributes could enhance future books in the series. There is some action but the plot is more about the adventure of being a couple after being alone for so long and not about the adventure of fighting the bad guys. I really hope to see more of Solange and Dominic in future books. I would imagine their children could be the future leaders of the Carpathians.
