Jed is an Archer from one of the most elite races in the universe. She lives by the Archer's Code and doesn't interact with beings except via her ship. That is until someone decides to hijack her ship's system and commandeer it. Gerald Wolff is a bailed slave who is ordered to hijack Jed's ship by interfering with her mental control of it. Wolff and Jed are forced into a loose truce as they attempt to figure how and why someone's trying to kill them both.

I am not sure how to convey my thoughts regarding this book. Perhaps it's something in me that caused my severe dislike or just that the story was boring. It took me multiple attempts to finish this novel. I did not like the heroine as I could not relate to her in any feasible way. I understood and generally like science fiction but I did not like this story and the heroine lacked any redeeming qualities to me.

Ms. Benson's story was well-written and she really developed the world in which the characters exist. However, I could not connect with the female character, Jed, at all. Her society, habits and beliefs were so very alien and separate from anything I have read or experienced. I hate to admit it but I felt a very intense and unflinching dislike towards Jed throughout and it only grew as I continued the story to its conclusion. I guess that's the best way to describe my discomfort with this book. True, this is a fantasy romance but it lacks the humanity in my opinion. I found it extremely difficult to relate to a character that exists solely in isolation with drugs. I did enjoy Wolff though. He was funny and engaging. Unfortunately the sex was discomforting and awkward as well. Overall, I wish there had been more actual interactive growth between the characters and more humanity demonstrated by the heroine.
