Jaci Waters takes in stray animals of all kinds. A wolf has attacked several animals in the area and now has attacked a young man. He's in serious condition and the town folk want to hunt the wolf down and kill it. Jaci's dad was killed the previous year by a wolf but she holds no ill will toward them. She wants the wolf to be captured not killed and is willing to argue with the town's men until they agree with her. But at the meeting is a stranger who will not agree with her. He's good looking and there's something about him that she is drawn to. He has an agenda that only he knows and will not share. Dolton Freye claims to be a wolf expert but gives no input on how to catch the wolf. He just declares that he will kill it.

Jaci has mixed feelings toward Dolton and is confused as to what to do. Her mother told her when she was little to trust the dark wolf, that it would protect her. And suddenly there is a dark wolf that came to her rescue. Could that be the one her mother predicted? Jaci is in for a big shock when she finds out what secrets not just Dolton, but her family and the town, have kept hidden.

This is a good story with a lot of curves. There are a lot of secrets all around and not just with Dolton Freye. This book was too good to put down, I could not stop till I finished it. Rhiannon Ellis did a wonderful job on the characters. You could see the arrogance in Ian Kingsley and Dolton Freye too. I was really impressed with the way the story went; it seemed to flow from one scene to another. This book is a must have for any library.
