Though it had been a few months since Polly Angelin's husband and Dom of ten years died, she still deeply mourned Mark's loss. Although a capable woman and mother who supports her two daughters and maintains her home with efficiency, she still aches for the companionship of a partner and the dominance of a sexual master. So, she is a lot surprised, as well as a little relieved and uncertain, when David Lowe, her husband's best friend and the man she had almost married, shows up on her doorstep claiming Mark had requested he seek her out.

David Lowe had never stopped loving or desiring Polly. Viewing her as the one who got away, their attraction for each other is almost instantly rekindled when he reenters her life. But even after he marries Polly and settles into the role of surrogate father and dominating partner, David knows the family needs time to heal. But their love is tested even further when betrayals within their BDSM group force the two of them to face what is really important in their lives.

David's Angel takes David and Polly deep into the heart of the BDSM culture, complete with contracts drawn up stating their limits and desires that the two view as binding as the wedding certificate they signed. They work and play within established guidelines, careful at all times to protect Polly's two very curious little girls. The group they belong to is eclectic, with some members resentful of Polly and David's refusal to share or play with others. Because of that, there is a darker side to David's Angel that I wasn't suspecting.

Stephanie Beck has written a book that will touch your heart at the same time it makes you squirm. As a dominant, David expects Polly to defer to him in most things, even though he admires her self-sufficiency. The few times that she dares to question his reasons or decisions; Polly knows she will be punished for stepping outside her permitted boundaries.

This is the BDSM lifestyle that both Polly and David need and seek. Polly's reasons for questioning David are always well justified, so in some ways his reactions can appear unreasonable when he punishes her anyway, but in truth he is merely fulfilling his obligation to their partnership. David's Angel is not fluff. It is a highly thoughtful story filled with three dimensional characters living a totally different life in their bedroom than they expose to the vanilla world. I highly recommend it to all readers of erotic romance. It will be a journey that will stay with you for a long, long time.
