| Davin has always been different from his people
because he’s a throwback. He’s able to feel things
that no Alvain can, and because of that is known to be
unstable. He’s aware that he’s a valuable commodity
because of his ability to work with crystal, and if it
wasn’t for that he would have no status in society.
Knowing this, he’s developed a plan… and it involves
the fact that in the old days, his race used to find
mates that helped to balance them and prevent madness
to people like him with emotions. He’s hoping that he
can find one on earth to balance him before he goes
insane… then he meets Callie and starts to believe his
search is over.
This story dragged a bit for me. I believe it could have been cut in half and it would be a lot more interesting. It was like asking someone what they’ve been doing lately and they start at the beginning of their life. I felt that Callie was too naive to really know what the heck she was getting into with Davin, and I also thought the romance between them and Rick was even more unlikely. Even without the innocence of Callie to contend with, I didn’t feel a passionate connection between the three or even with just Callie and Davin when they first met. I thought the story had a lot of potential with the way the world was invaded, the thought behind why the physic humans were left, and the different scenarios that could be played out in that world. I’m sure that there are a lot of stories waiting to be told, as there are secondary characters that could definitely have a great story, such as the Assassin and Callie’s “brother” Harry.
