| The Nightkeepers are few in number but believe they can keep the world safe from a cataclysm that will release the demons of hell into the world. Nate Blackhawk is an author of video games. Finding out he's part of a group of people predestined to help save the world doesn't set well with him. He fights belief in destiny. Raised on the streets, imprisoned in early life, he's had to struggle to make something of himself. He even manages to convince himself that love isn't real when it stares him in the face in the form of Alexis Gray.
Jessica Andersen has woven an epic tale full of dialogue and action that will enthrall any fan of paranormal or science fiction. Even readers who don't usually go for that kind of book will enjoy this romantic novel filled with humor and suspense. The age old tale of good fighting evil never seems to get old. This author wraps that storyline with characters like Rabbit, a teenager who feels like a misfit in the family of Nightkeepers.. His thoughts and actions are typical teenage stuff like parents deal with everyday. But not with a demon trying to steal their fledgling powers. Anna, a Nightkeeper visionary and husband Dick are having a rocky time in their marriage. Being a couple in the modern world is hard enough without a woman like Desiree who has powers from the underworld at her fingertips. There are few books that allow the characters to evolve and grow like Ms. Andersen does in this one. That's part of the beauty of it. So many players get to become better people, strong enough to battle whatever is thrown at them. No matter what their weaknesses may be we watch them become the best that we could hope for as we empathize with their life struggles. This is one of those books I couldn't put down until I was able to see how my favorites would fare against the demons. I look forward to more tales in this series with a great sense of anticipation.
