Its only been a few days since Harley was almost killed trying to solve the mystery of the murders in the jewel thefts case of the first book, KING'S RANSOM, when this new adventure begins. She received so much publicity by earning the Crime Stopper's reward that everybody wants her to solve some mystery for them. She can't say no to her mother's hoity-toity sister. Within a day of agreeing to look into whether her Aunt Darcy's new partner is using her interior design business as a cover for smuggling illegal artifacts, Harley finds another dead body.

Her childhood friend, homicide detective Bobby Baroni, is furious. He'd almost arrested her for obstruction the last time she stumbled over dead bodies. Her new boyfriend, undercover police hunk Mike Morgan, is beside himself with worry about her. Everyone is screaming at her to stay out of police business, but it isn't like she asked to go around finding dead bodies all the time. Her serene and psychic mother says the spirit guides want her to tell Harley to beware of geese and everything will turn out okay.

The evidence seems to point to Aunt Darcy and the police aren't even looking for anyone else. No one can blame Harley for asking her friend and co-worker Tootsie, the cross-dressing female impersonator and computer hacking whiz, to get information about the other suspects on her list. But the other suspects keep getting murdered too. Bobby and Mike treat her like she's the killer instead of the poor, unfortunate, innocent, victim of circumstance that she is.

This book is such a pleasure to read. I can't remember when I've been so well entertained by a book. I couldn't put it down and I couldn't wipe the grin off my face. This whole series is going on my electronic keeper shelf so that I can pull it out and read it whenever I'm feeling down, because it is a guaranteed mood-lifter. From the outrageous but completely believable situations poor Harley finds herself in to, her outrageous but completely believable family, you won't be able to contain your laughter. I suggest you read DEADLY DESIGN to improve your health.
