Risa Chandler has gone home to recuperate, both emotionally and physically, after the deadly ending of a case involving a pedophile. Detective Nate McGuire is facing one of the toughest cases of his career after the third victim of a deranged killer is discovered. Risa reluctantly agrees to help after her agency is called for assistance. With the body count rising, the hunt intensifies and Risa's disturbing dreams return, showing her the madness of the killer and the agony of the victims. Can they learn to trust each other and work together before it's too late or will the killer add two more victims to his list?

This was a very taut and suspenseful thriller. I had a hard time getting into it at first but by chapter three I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed the lead characters, Risa and Nate. They were both tough but had lighter sides that came out as the story went on. Risa was strong and smart and I could really connect with her fears. It was great to see her overcome them and regain her confidence by the end of the story. Nate was unexpected. At first I thought he was going to be a hard-boiled detective who shut everyone out, especially the unknown consultant that Risa was introduced as. He ended up being tough on the outside but very caring and soft on the inside. Their chemistry with each other was interesting and fun and they played off each other well. The mystery had lots of twists and turns and was well developed. This is part of the Mindhunter series but can be read as a stand alone. Although I haven't read any of the others -- yet -- I did have to go and get them and I can't wait for the next installment. If you like Kay Hooper you will really like Kylie Brant. I highly recommend for edge of your seat entertainment.
