Murder, adultery, unfaithfulness, stolen birthright, lost love, blackmail and homosexuality all are expertly placed into this story. There was no guessing at the ending and at the end it was a surprise. But I'm not giving it away. The plot is well written that it has many that introduce new characters to the story but a new twist to it also opening new avenues for we the reader to explore.

Alex Halsey returns home from Paris to claim his beloved Emily's hand in marriage only to find that she has consented to marry his brother the Earl of Devlin instead. This is not the first time Alex has lost a love six years earlier he lost another fair lady when his brother interferred. The Earl of Devlin has had a long standing feud with his brother and all knew there was no love lost between them.

Heart broken Alex resigned to the fact once again he had lost until a strange series of events began to unfold. The murder of Emily's maid, the attack on Emily, the question of Alex's true birth right and the question of who his father truly was,and the murder of his friend and his sexual f=preference. Have I sparked your interests yet, I hope so.

Lucinda Brant has done a wonderful job with this story and this is one that deserves to be read again and again for sheer love of the romance and suspense it has. I higly recommend it and applaud Ms. Brant and I for one wait patiently for the sequel to this one.
