How is it possible that one little girl, surrounded by the most innovative security imaginable, could be kidnapped? For Ellie Mulder it happens for the second time in her life. This time the Colorado Bureau of Investigation seems to be as inept as they were the first time. The parents have called in Adam Raiker and his group, Raiker Forensics because he got her back the first time. Macy Reid, a forensic linguist knows what Ellie is probably going through since she was kidnapped as a child. The search for Ellie is an emotional one for her. The presence of an old flame, Kellan Burke, complicates her life even more. Can one of the teams work through all of the difficulties to save a little girl?

Kylie Brant weaves a powerful suspense that will make this book very hard to put down before you turn the last page. The trail becomes a maze that will keep the most avid fan guessing. Every page is another piece of the puzzle that needs to be placed just right for us to figure it out. The romance between Macy and Kellan just makes it better. Her story puts us inside the mind of a victim in a unique way. Not many readers will have much sympathy for the CBI and their process. Their director's desire to solve the case seems to come before his concern for the child. Adam Raiker is another unique character whose personal experiences help drive this series. Brant makes this one of those stories that will stick in the reader's mind long after the last page is turned. This is one of the best mysteries I've read in a long time.
