| A long weekend bachelorette party on a Texas dude ranch is the last thing busy stock broker Jessica Talbot needs. But after a exhausting trip, finding a gorgeous cowboy waiting to pick her up gives her some hope for the party. Deke Dumen returned to his family's dude ranch to lick his wounds after serious injuries ended both his Air Force career and his marriage. Guests are out of bounds for all four of the Dumen brothers but Deke can't get Jessica out of this thoughts. When she responds to his interest, and to his whispered need to be in control, Deke knows he can't let her walk away without taking the chance to see if they have a future beyond a night of pleasure.
Jessica is an interesting character. Her ex-fiancé left her with a case of low self esteem, yet Deke's attention turns that around to the point she finds herself willing to indulge in the kind of sexual play she's never tried. Instant trust seems a bit out of character for her, but it does work in this story. Deke's life has been torn apart in so many ways and he doesn't know what he wants for a future. He's taking a risk getting involved with Jessica, going against his own code as well as his family's strict non-fraternization policy, but he can't help himself from wanting to try. The story is fast paced and completely believable. It's not just sex for sex's sake. The lovemaking fits the personalities and the story. It's about two people trying to say no when their hearts and bodies are saying yes. I really liked the instant attraction that both characters try to deny. Very well done. Callie Croix has written a nice story and while Deke is into control in the bedroom, we don't see any hard or offensive BDSM play. I recommend this one for a cozy weekend afternoon.
