Richard is a drifter living in the West who makes his living cheating at gambling and occasionally assisting Wayne, the Marshall, when needed. He came out West due to his illness and to get away from the "perfect life" his father had planned for him. He didn't want that life - the wife and family - but he's not sure what he wants. Or is he???

He's had some "rough and tumble" flings that were satisfying and yet there was always something missing. There is something about Wayne that calls for him but Wayne is much too good looking and too nice to be interested in a sickly person, such as Richard.

Wayne has a proposition for Richard - a job to try and get the man who murdered a family - which Richard accepts, but he learns some very startling information on the journey. Now he's more confused than ever! Or is he?

I enjoyed Dealing Straight - I thought Richard and Wayne were both great characters - but I would have liked a bit more information on Wayne. We were given very little background on him and I feel it would have made this story exceptional. However, Emily Veinglory gives us a powerful story of a man pulled between two worlds and the struggles he must overcome to accept who he is and where he really belongs!
