Kairi is a hard bitten attorney that’s been around the block a few times. She’s clawed her way to the top, and along the way she knows that she has let things go that she probably shouldn’t. She found that she could live with herself so long as she didn’t know for sure that her clients were guilty. This time, even her conscious is getting the best of her. This current client is most definitely guilty, because he told her he was and in detail. Her boss is demanding that she represent the man or else. While making a decision, she is attacked by a monster right out of her nightmares. Now that she’s dying, she knows what she has to do, if only she can talk the Death Lord into letting her live one more day…

This was a good story, although I thought the ending was a little disappointing, only because I felt like it left me hanging a bit. I liked Kairi; she was tough and made no bones about the fact that she was also a hard woman that made some choices she was not proud of. Watching her grow a conscience was wonderful, and as the story moves on you really start to understand and like her. Thantos is the same way. He seems aloof and mysterious when you first meet him, but his puzzlement over Kairi’s attraction makes him more approachable, along with some other interesting twists. Death and the Maiden is a fantastic story that you won’t want to put down, and I will definitely be on the look out for more from this talented author.
