| The Earth of the future is not a pleasant place for a woman with any kind of intelligence. They are little more than slaves to be used for breeding and pleasure. A genetic experiment years before almost made them extinct, and even now they are a rare commodity. Nellie Kan is a rarity, a woman with an education and a career. She is a scientist on the verge of a breakthrough in finding a cure for an epidemic that threatens the human's existence; a virus that turns humans into monsters. Nellie lost her mother to that disease and vows to end it. Kerick has been on Death Row for 14 years. He has had time to study the system and its faults and is now able to make an escape with his two best friends. They are determined to make lives for themselves and avenge the death of Kerick's mother, Dr. Tara Riley a noted scientist, who died of the disease plaguing the planet. The three also want to each claim a woman of their own. Kerick sets his sights on Nellie Kan.
This is an interesting take on the putative future, but not one that I would like to live in. The characters are very well described and develop throughout the story, becoming more likable and human. The sub humans are as pathetic as they are scary and the reader will feel some sympathy for them. The subjugation of the women is pretty extreme, and the leaders of the government seem short sighted and stupid, even for politicians. There is a lot of suspense in the story, keeping the reader on edge. The sex scenes are very descriptive and hot. Some parts of the ending need more explanation, some of it really did not make sense in the context of the information the author gave, but otherwise it was a very entertaining tale.
