Living her very sheltered and narrow life as a human, Cera had no idea what fate had in store for her. And you'd think that being murdered would be the end, but for Cera an amazing journey is just about to start, whether she's willing or not. Soon she's faced with worlds and individuals that she never imagined, not even in her nightmares. What's she going to do when she finds out it all rests on her?

The characters in the book are truly multifaceted. The "good guys" are in no way clearly good. In fact, the author seems to go out of her way to show some very bad traits in her heroes. They are also not in anyway doing what they are doing for purely altruistic reasons. And it's not just the mortals. The characters that were clearly never mortal are written almost foreign, and yet they show the extremes in human nature so very well.

I really enjoy the pantheon of gods that are in the book. You could see the knowledge of those gods, their characteristics and their worshippers. However, the author also gave everything a really good spin and has made them her own characters. She also takes some of the basics from several theologies and weaves them together so well that it creates one amazing and at times horrific world.

This is sort of a hard book for me to review because by the end I thought this was a good book, but there were points where I wasn't sure I was enjoying it. The author uses amazing skill in describing the world of Death. In fact, there were parts where she is too descriptive to the point of making the reader uncomfortable. However, if you can get past some of those points, the story is incredibly intriguing.
