| Chloe has decided to show her support for the military so she signs up for a USO tour entertaining the troops because she literally owes her life to a military victim. She doesn't expect to need rescuing right off the bat, but that's exactly what happens. Not once, but several times by none other than sexy hotshot pilot Jimmy Gage who doesn't seem to think much of the decisions she is making. However, when one of her exploits puts both of them in danger, the fall out adrenaline sparks the simmering passion between the two. Now they must deal with their passion for each other as well as a ruthless terrorist determined to put an end to their lives.
Defender is the first book in the new Dark Ops series, and delivers action, adventure, passion, suspense, and most of all, that heart stopping honor and commitment that is synonymous with Mann's military heroes. Jimmy's past, both personal and professional, has made his commitment to the military and his need to find his kidnapped friend even stronger. I thought his personality a little bit arrogant at times, but given what he does for a living, he deserves to have that arrogance. Chloe's history has taught her to live each day to the fullest, and she is trying to make the most of what each day brings. Chloe's escapades coupled with Jimmy's missions keep the pace moving quickly and the reader on the edge of her seat until the very last page. The passion between Chloe and Jimmy simmers throughout the book and when they come together it is combustible! This series promises to be a winner and I'm already looking forward to the second Dark Ops book.
